Calling all wine lovers. In the build up to the third annual Taste of Orange festival to be held in Bondi in August, Ravesi’s on Campbell Parade is hosting the launch of the Orange wineries’ 2009 Sauvignon Blanc range.

A highly successful 2008 for the blossoming wine region, culminated in a number of awards, most notably for Logan, which collected the Wine State Sauvignon Blanc of the Year, and Brangayne, which received Best Australian Sauvignon Blanc, at the New Zealand International Wine Show. New Zealand is known for the quality of its Sauvignon Blancs. Continuing the area’s success, the Logan and Angullong wineries, along with a number of others, were highly decorated at the recent Sydney Wine Show.

There is quiet belief within the Orange wine community that this year will be just as fruitful.

Ben Crossings from Angullong Wines said: “We have had good conditions again during vintage and the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc is looking great. We are confident it will be up there with last year’s.”

Market leaders when it comes to the popular blend are from the Marlborough region across the Tasman but our home-grown wines are becoming the preference of the Australian wine-drinker. Currently, Kiwi Sauvignon Blancs make up over half the white wine market in this country and for the first time is outselling Chardonnay. So what better time to give the Orange grown range a try.

So all you budding sommeliers out there, or if you just enjoy a fine glass of white, head down to Ravesi’s on July 27 from 6pm and see what Orange has to offer.
