Sydney will be dazzling this spring with art works and installations peeking around every corner and leaping from every wall. Art and About combines celebrations of Sydney’s past with innovative depictions of its future.

Last Drinks; One More Round at the Hotel Australia recreates the sights, sounds and sighs of this iconic building which was sadly lost in 1971. Artists Michal Killalea and Sarah Barns will use a mixture of media including film and audio recordings to return Martin Place and Castlereagh Street to a Victorian era of sophistication and delight.

The theme of Art and About is colour and Benja Harney will transform the Queen Victoria Building into a springtime wonderland with a startling paper installation. The central dome of the sandstone landmark will become a fountain of mesmerising colour under the touch of this master artist.

Jasper Knight and Isabelle Toland capture the playfulness of the city with Friendly Billboards. Electronic mobile traffic billboards will be placed around the city with cheeky messages to entertain and surprise pedestrians and motorists.

Sydney’s precincts will also hold inspiring installations and exhibitions. Open Street Art in the Darling Precinct will feature 16 innovative paintings by emerging Australian street artists, Anthony Lister , Beastman, Shannen Cress and Hiroyasu Tsuri. The paintings will highlight the creative contribution that street art makes to the urban environment.

Art and About is a wonderful opportunity to explore the cultural landscape of our home. Designed to capture the natural shining light and colour of Sydney’s spring, the event features many free exhibitions and experiences. Families are not forgotten with many activities for children too. Opening night is on September 21 with free music on the Martin Place stage.
