CLUBHOUSE @ PERFORMANCE SPACE

Strangers send love letters between Bristol, Brussels and Berlin. A woman collects discarded shoes in order to fashion a sculptural installation. A group gathers en masse to barter their knowledge. If you think this sounds a little weird – but also quite wonderful – then maybe it’s time to join the club… ClubHouse is a new program run by the inimitable Performance Space. For over 25 years, the ‘P Space’ has served not only as a venue for contemporary performance and arts, but also as a facilitator for new work and cultural dialogue. Now they’re taking over Track 12 at Carriageworks to stage a varied collection of 15 events, ranging from forums and discussions through to screenings, installations and performance. The program kicks off on Friday the 12th of February, as artist Barbara Campbell introduces a haiku project with a difference. Bring your own t-shirt and (for a mere $15) she’ll print you a News Haiku, derived from text in that day’s edition of The Australian. On Feb 13 you can warm up for V-Day with artist Matthew Whittaker by penning love letters to strangers at A Lover’s Discourse and then if you’re still feeling social by Feb 18 join the Thursday Dinner Club (hosted by Rosie Dennis). Kiss Club on Feb 19 takes all this creativity to first base. Some of these events won’t be for everyone. But if this sounds like the kind of club you’d like to join, head to www.performancespace.com.au and check out the full program.

Until Mar 6, Wednesday to Saturday from 2pm, Track 12, Carriageworks, 245 Wilson St Eveleigh, performancespace.com.au
