COMEDY FESTIVAL SNEAK PEEK

It’s hard to imagine that a non-descript drinking hole, sitting in a dip in the road opposite the thunderingly inglorious Paceway, could have once powered the Sydney comedy scene, witnessing the likes of international comic greats Robin Williams, Ben Elton and Steven K Amos, as well as providing fertile breeding ground for local talents Carl Barron, Peter Berner, Andrew Denton and Jimeoin .. to name but a few.
Yet history tells us that’s the case for the Harold Park Hotel, a venue that after closing down from the 1990s until 2008 has since been scrubbed up (almost beyond recognition) and is now sitting pretty for a comedy revival. Enter stage left, local joke-spinners Fiona O’Loughlin, Jeff Green, Greg Fleet and Joel Creasey, each offering a sneak-peak into their grab-bag of material in the lead-up to the Sydney Comedy Festival in April. We’re just hoping this old horse manages to keep up her steam. (AB)
