Ever since Tap Dogs debuted in Sydney in 1995, I’ve wanted to see the show. So, when I heard it was coming to town in early 2011, my heart gave a little tappity-tap and I jumped at the chance to see it. And it certainly didn’t disappoint. From the moment the first big note boomed through the Capitol Theatre, silencing the packed audience (and scaring the hell out of half of them), it was on, with sparks and all! This show was loud, dynamic, energetic, and an 80 minute experience that saw me either grinning like a goofy kid or shaking my head in amazement. Adam Garcia was back in action for the first time in five years (and as good as ever), as was Sheldon Perry (brother of Tap Dogs choreographer Dein Perry), and four just as talented young tappers, plus two sexy platinum blonde vixens on drums. Made up of a series of scenes, all based around the construction of train tracks, this is not just a mesmerising display of tap dancing prowess, but also awesome athleticism and creativity. And if you ever wondered what you’d get if you combined Fred Astaire with a Harlem Globetrotter in Blundstones, you’ll find out in one of the show’s more outstanding moments. Oh, and a word of warning – if you manage to snag a seat at the front there’s a strong likelihood you will get wet!
