Donations in aid of a positive outlook

Expect to see red ribbons pinned to the clothes of Sydneysiders over the coming week in recognition of World Aids Day.
The annual event celebrates the global effort to eradicate Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
A glamorous fund-raising event will be held at the Paddington Town Hall on Thursday, December 1. The ‘World Aids Day Dinner’, catered for by the internationally acclaimed chef Robert Oliver, is held to raise money for charity groups which support AIDS victims, primarily in the greater Sydney region. Guests of the event will enjoy a spectacular show including a special performance by Australian Idol superstar Guy Sebastian. Other shows include youth ballet and aerial trapeze, as well as a live auction.
Over 20 000 Australians are infected with HIV, and many of them live in the Sydney metropolitan area. Thanks to modern research, and the aid of medical services, people with HIV can achieve a high quality of life. However, people with HIV may have trouble leading a normal lifestyle and the services required to live well can be costly depending on the extent of the disease.
The celebrations continue into the weekend, with Sydney’s best drag performers taking the stage on Friday 3 for ‘The Red Party’ at Stonewall Hotel on Oxford St. A similar show will be held on Saturday at The Midnight Shift, just down the road. Both events have been arranged by the Aids Council of NSW (ACON), who provide local assistance to AIDS victims and to the Gay-Lesbian-Bisexual-Transgender community across Australia.
Those who want to show support for World Aids Day will be dressed in red on Thursday.
