EXHIBITION: MS. & MR.

In There There Anxious Future, Ms. & Mr. have discovered a wormhole that has one mouth in Pasadena, one in a spaceship far from Earth. This allows them to not only hold hands romantically – despite vast comet-laden distances – but also slip through time and insert themselves into their pasts and futures. If this sounds weird and more than a little inscrutable you’d be right – but given the chance, who wouldn’t want to cut and paste themselves into their lover’s lifeline? Stephanie and Richard nova Milne, the married duo who form Ms. & Mr, are preoccupied with the creative offspring that romance, and intense collaboration, yield. Fossicking through old home videos, the pair literally sutured their past and present selves into new footage – a partnership existing in no-time. The results are eerie; almost uncomfortably intimate looped videos (an elder Stephanie sensually inhaling the smoke of baby-faced Richard, the Hadron collider composited with animation) placed alongside restored drawings from their childhoods. Romantic, maybe. Spacey, definitely.
