GET BACK – THE LENNON & MCCARTNEY SONGBOOK

“The Beatles never got naff in the way other bands have. Fifty years on if you say you like the Beatles no one will raise an eyebrow,” the cabaret superstar, Mark Jones, explains to me. This array of Lennon and McCartney songs are uniquely re-imagined by talented award-winning cabaret performers Mark Jones, Melissa Langton and Libby O’Donovan. “The songs are perfect little gems. Lennon was a great lyricist and McCartney was incredibly melodic and inventive and the combination of this is why they were so strong,” Jones continues. “The show is fun and funny and that’s generated by the fact we’re an odd trio. Three singers and two women is not what you expect. We don’t sing anything like the Beatles.” Some of the kooky and interesting adaptations audiences can look forward to are: a samba version of I Feel Fine, Baby You Can Drive My Car in cappella, a yodeled hoe-down of Ob La Di Ob La Da, an operatic take on Live and Let Die, and a complex and theatrical arrangement of Eleanor Rigby, Another Day and Help. Well, I’ve got a feeling, audiences will Come Together in this show to not only Imagine, but to Twist & Shout.
