Kings Cross flaunts some local flavour

When one mentions Kings Cross, it’s more likely the area’s notorious underbelly, or its international party scene that comes to mind, often overshadowing the more wholesome and enriching gems the suburb has to offer.
However, locals would know that the lasting attractions of Australia’s most densely populated area are the bars, restaurants and cafes of Kings Cross, many nestled off the busy strip, and each with their own vibrant take on cuisine.
The annual Kings Cross Festival is back again to put the spotlight on local flavours in the largest line up of food and drinks yet.
President of the Kings Cross Partnership, Linda Mearing said the festival, happening on May 3, vindicates the talent the area has to offer.
“It gives people an opportunity to celebrate why they live here. It’s a great location to be based if you’re living in the Sydney.
“It’s going to exhibit an extraordinary range of taste experiences that visitors to the area can expect to enjoy,” she said.
Featuring 44 stalls on the day, 16 local bars and eateries will have their best on display in Kings Cross’s Fitzroy Gardens, including wine from local resident Sir James Hardy, and cuisine from local chefs Harunobu Inukai of Blanc Haru, and Angelo Italiano of Mezzaluna.
The expected 12000-15000 visitors can also expect to enjoy tastes from Korea, Mexico, Cuba, France, Germany and Austria, and police will pause their usual duties to deliver a musical performance alongside the Navy band.
The Kings Cross Festival is on Sunday May 3 between 10am and 5pm at Fitzroy Gardens, next to the El Alamein fountain.
