Oxford Art Factory has 3Things Hip Hop Approach, an Oxfam-run initiative to bring awareness and discussion about important global issues, with Ozi Batla, Dialectrix and Tuka heading up the extensive line up. Thursday 30th is the day. Friday 1st and the unbeatable 505 in Surry Hills is hosting one of the more out there and fantastic underground gigs of the Winter. It sees self-professed Aviational Jazz Hop inventors The Conscious Pilots bringing their signature acoustic take on hip hop to team up with the enigmatic Ninja The Bungee, who recently surprised punters with a packed set at Katoomba’s Winter Magic festival. A winner for sure. Those up for some top shelf electronic music later on can catch 16BIT at Oxford Art Factory, who have made the trip from their home in the U.K. to bring their highly sought-after production skills to our shores. Friday night continues to give up the goods, with the much-hyped Dereb The Ambassador launching his debut album (despite having released it some time ago) at GoodGod – sure to be packed. Saturday 2nd finds FBi’s Sydney Sounds Like – Choose Your Own Adventure taking place at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville, with Faker and Deep Sea Arcade heading up the generous bill. Also on Saturday, Bondi locals Meow Kapow are playing Oxford Art Factory in their free Gallery Bar section, with The Rubens and Made In Japan in support. Definitely worth checking out. Sunday 3rd the Annandale is hosting Blood Sweat & Beers, with Snowdroppers, Area 7 and Anchors heading up the bill of quality rock and roll. Tatlers Club is the place to be on Thursday 7th, with kiwi soul diva Sheba Williams performing with her band The Sinnermen at the Darlinghurst venue one last time before taking time off overseas – definitely a must-see! Back at 505 on Cleveland St for Friday 8th, everyone’s favourite roots music gentleman Declan Kelly is playing with his fantastic band – definitely a must see for those not familiar with his uplifting soul-reggae. Female folk supergroup Seeker Lover Keeper will be performing material from their debut collaboration at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville that same night, and also on Friday, The Panics will rock the socks off Oxfordat Art Factory with the wonderful Grace Woodfroode in support. On Saturday 9th, the Red Rattler in Marrickville is hosting Musica de Fuego, a charity event by Chiapas Solidarity Sydney to support autonomous indigenous communities in Chiapas, Mexico. The Rumjacks, Top Novil, Rocksteady Dub Militia and Handsome Young Strangers are all lending their services for the cause. Anyone interested in some full-on heavy metal can find it in Ouroboros who will be playing the Gaelic Club on Devonshire St, Surry Hills – these guys have just finished a tour with Morbid Angel and The Amenta, so catch while they’re hot!
