Loene Carmen’s musical career has taken on many incarnations since the release of her psychedelic indie debut Born Funky Born Free in 2002. Her latest album suggests that her restless genre hopping has been leading toward a collaboration with her father, legendary piano man Peter Head.

The Apple Don’t Fall Far From The Tree is full of late-night country ballads and crooning that is candid and honest (Late Bloomer and Love Hurts) but also full of fun (Makin’ Whoopee and File My Claim).

As Carmen and Head sing “songs don’t care if you’re sleeping or if you’re standing at the kitchen sink.”

So it seems, no matter which genre Carmen attempts, she manages to make it authentic and original. (NH)
