Two Waverley district lifesavers recently competed successfully in the United States Surf Life Saving Championships at Huntington Beach, California.
Adriel Young, representing the Bondi club, finished second in the surf ski race, third in the ironman race, fourth in the board rescue race and was the third male overall for the carnival.
He also teamed with Tom Trembath (North Burleigh, Qld), for second place in the board rescue race and with Trent Maxwell (Bronte), Shayne Bryant (Destin, Florida) and Trembath for another second place in the taplin relay race.
“The surf was about two to three feet which made for interesting racing,” Young said.
“Sara Gentin from North Bondi also competed. There were as well two boys from Ireland and a strong presence from Hawaii.”
Young, when not involved with surf lifesaving activities at the Bondi club, is employed as a Waverley Council lifeguard, patrolling Bondi, Tamarama and Bronte beaches all year round.
