I agree Michael. I voted Green at last Council election and won’t again. Have a look at some of the comments on the other anti Metro story in the “the Independent”, “Assumptions...” etc. I think what is interesting about all this is that “the Independent” has suddenly popped up in a marginal seat sprouting Liberal Party propaganda.

I agree with Susan and the others. I am a business owner in Rozelle, and if I see this newspaper around again I will personally help her put them all in the bin. I dodn't care about the politics, I know the greens are opposed, but they dodn't represent us and they are opposed to everything we have tried to do to improve Rozelle.
Why does this newspaper think we will support it? I hope they ask me for an ad! Then I'll have a chnace to tell them what I really think!

I agree with Nat... I too am sick of the media beat up and so called local opposition to the metro. This is not true. These very vocal, small, self interest, political opportunist, minority groups do not have overwhelming support within the community. As a resident of Pyrmont I look forward to a quicker, more reliable public transport link to the city which is what the CBD Metro will provide, & when the West Metro is completed Sydney Uni, Olympic Park, Parramatta & beyond… I think the Greens will be suprised by how many votes there gonna loose from their anti metro stand.

Nat, don’t write when you are angry. You sound as cranky as the people you criticise!

There is a reason for everything, even irrational behavior. Your suspicions have substance, as my last posts here were “moderated” out of existence. But you may need a bit of historical background.

I first thought the Libs were involved in this paper. But a delusional Jeremy Brown in another posting and the spectacularly deranged and paranoid “Nick Possum” in City Hub have helpfully explained what is going on.

You are right – apart from a tiny few affected property owners, the great majority of business owners and residents in the inner city and inner west will benefit from the Metro. Investment spin offs, business opportunities and commuter benefits will be phenomenal.

That this publishing outfit is campaigning against its own interests may seem strange, but it is blind prejudice speaking, certainly nothing rational. You have accurately inducated where that’s from. The Libs aren’t interested in this lot – why would they need to be, they are too one-eyed to even know they are being used. The Libs will get their stand-in, the dopey but hyper active Jamie Parker installed in parliament soon enough anyway.

These bizarre stories which are destroying their editors and publishers credibility in the meantime, are written by people who understand zilch. They do get funding from the greens on Leichhardt Council to publish it, but that doesn't explain everything. They are running about like chooks with their heads cut off not for money, but because they are motivated out of pure unadulterated ideology.

Those beliefs and concerns come from the 70s. In inner city street press, which requires a street wise cred and a contemporary image to survive, their stories look like what they are – bizarre suicide notes.

Don’t waste your energy being angry Nat

Ignore them. I intend to from now on, and most people already are.

Right on Nat! I am a business owner and resident in Rozelle, and I support the Metro. So do all the other businesses and neighbours I know.
I do not want to see this paper littering Darling St again, as it was last weekend. I threw the bundle that was dumped outside away, but I did keep one, meaning to complain later. I was disgusted by your anti Rozelle slant.

What ARE they doing... Good question. Have you noticed that The Liberal Party, News Ltd and Fairfax are all united in their opposition to the Metro? That should tell you everything. The rich powerful elite of this city have spoken as one. And this newspaper is in there too, say "me too! me too!" Thats why its called "Alternative"

Calm down Nat, no one could be worse than the Village Voice! I wrote to them a few months ago because I got pissed off like you with all this property interest stuff that they churn out, and they even published it.
But then, so what, it just goes on & on & on, the grinding publicity machine of a powerful elite, who in this case, don't want us in Rozelle to get a Metro because their property interests might be threatened.
This publication is part of all that Nat. They will publish you but they don't care about your interests, or your need for public transport.
They'll tell you Rozelle doesn't need public transport, that it is "well serviced" and anyone can walk. Thats almost a direct quote from the local paper! Then they'll pompously tell you to get on a bike.

I posted another comment about this. Its very odd to read this stuff in a local newspaper, and I don't think I will ever again. Or certainly bother to post anything, but you have intrigued/annoyed me enough to do so this time.

You are a newspaper (i think, or maybe associated with the Council?) As news you publish nothing but Council material. This story is total nonsense, but it is the greens Councils viewpoint I know that because we are told that constantly.

If you really were a local paper, you would talk to local people, not just the green councillors who are opposed to the State Member, and the lobby group for the (privately run) tram line. The people in Rozelle will all benefit a lot from the Metro. I live HERE and you are editing a newspaper for the people HERE.

Or maybe not. What ARE you doing?

Giving reactionary people another Village Voice style opportunity to vent their anger at the modern world is making your newspaper look as sour and cranky as they are.

I for one will NOT be picking up another copy.
