Sydney Metro has decided to go ahead with its controversial proposal to convert Union Square in Pyrmont into a metro station, according to a report released by the NSW Department of Planning.

The report outlines some of the submissions that were made to Sydney Metro on a range of issues from the locations and construction of the stations to concerns about the design of some of the stations.

“The station location and design at Pyrmont has been the focus of considerable contention within the local community throughout the development of the reference design,” the report reads.

“In responding to these concerns, Sydney Metro has sought to reduce the likely environmental impacts at this location during both construction and operation, whilst maintaining an eastern entrance at this location, which is seen as integral to achieving the optimal service.”

Jean Stuart, co-convener of community group Pyrmont Action, said the report failed to address any of the community concerns regarding the proposed site for the station.

“It’s an absolute disgrace that they haven’t addressed our issues,” Ms Stuart said.

“They haven’t listened to the 1,800 submissions that we have put in and we are meeting on Saturday to discuss it.

“We believe that it’s absolutely appalling that the Metro have not examined the alternative options and we are totally opposed to their submission.”
