MOMOS – NO NO NO NOT LIKE THAT

This debut release from The Momos is the most eclectic of “rock” albums. A potpourri of “alternative rock” influences from Radio Birdman to Frank Zappa, Faith No More to Hall and Oates (okay, so they are a long way from “alternative”, bit it is the exception that makes the rule!), Cheap Trick to You Am I . Witness Knuckles where they channel Tim Rogers so well one could be excused for thinking he was dead. That the four piece band contains two Hayes brothers gives some clues as to the origins of their sound – Pat Hayes (Falling Joys, Stella One Eleven) and Justin Hayes (Whopping Big Naughty) – have been haunting Sydney’s music scene for two decades now, and along with Drew Thomason and drummer Sarah Moore they forms a powerful musical force. Guitars squeal, long solos make you question the future of rock and prog arrangements make you question your questions. Amidst all of this musical chaos they tease and tempt us with enough gorgeous melodies and harmonies to make us wonder what it all really means. Who are these Momos really?
