You may know him as the flamboyant Showbiz Reporter appearing on Channel 7’s Sunrise as you’re brushing your teeth in the morning, but there is much more to Nelson Aspen than dishing celebrity gossip.
With four decades in show business behind him, Nelson is coming to the Sydney Opera House for one show only, a location he describes as “a dream come true”. In this cabaret style production he will serve up a dishy combination of songs and stand-up comedy while weaving his legendary story-telling skills, spilling the beans on Hollywood royalty and talking about his own life and career.
He considers it a great privilege to have been invited into Australia’s lounge rooms for 12 years now, during what he describes as “a very intimate time of day”.
“Australia has always welcomed me and always made me feel so much like an honorary Aussie, this is like having everybody over to my place. It’s very interactive and even though it’s a big theatre – it will be a very intimate evening and I’m going to be inviting people to come on stage with me, I’ll be going out into the audience, we’ll be having conversations…”
He promises a fun and unique experience that will leave you with a lifetime of dinner table discussion topics. He will “address all the celebrity stuff that people love to talk about and associate with me” along with other parts of his life including his love for travel and cooking and medleys of love songs, beloved movie scenes and classic television scenes.
May 17, Sydney Opera House – Playhouse, $64.90 – $69.90. Tickets: http://www.sydneyoperahouse.com/whatson/nelson_aspen.aspx
