I’ve already explored owner/chef Jim Larcan’s dinner menu – the standout being his 400 Day Grain Fed Wagyu Beef Tagliata ($34) which is so well cooked I’d be hard placed to name a better wagyu dish in Sydney if value for money’s a consideration. I also enjoyed his wafer thin Beef Fillet Carpaccio ($18); and his Salt and Pepper Calamari ($17) which belies being battered and fried. The White Chocolate Crème Brulee ($12) is also great. Value for money shines hardest, with mains mostly pitched south of the thirty dollar mark, and a wine list that is well-priced and evolving. Recently I returned for brunch – it’s a great outdoor setting with good glass windbreaks, perfectly placed if you happen to be doing a spot of shopping at Pyrmont Growers Market. Linda Larcan makes a fabulous Allpress Flat White ($3.50) and beats any interlopers off her coffee machine. Her warmth and experience also shines on the floor. The Scrambled Eggs with Truffle Oil, Mushrooms, Tomato and Toast ($15.50) is competent; but an in-house baked Double Smoked Ham and Swiss Cheese Croissant ($7.50) could have had more time in the oven. Alternatively warm up with a bowl of French Onion Soup with Gruyere Croutons ($12).
