With so much to do, and so little time to do it in, Youth Week might spoil Sydney-siders for choice. However, dotted amongst the calendar are various events and festivals offering the young citizenry a myriad of activities, all at one time and in one place. The smARTarts festival is such an event, a Youth Art and Cultural showcase perfectly designed to introduce new talents to the public, and allow festivalgoers to swim in the sights, sounds and smells that define outdoor shows. smARTarts involves participatory workshops (sustainable beads, anyone?), a design art market, as well as various live poetry readings, music ensembles (including emo punkers Worst Case Scenario, some local songstresses, hip-hoppers hailing from Liverpool, Zzzillaz, and many more) as well as street performers. On top of this, the festival features art exhibitions, demonstrations, installations and performances – not surprisingly given the festivals name, but nonetheless a fresh and fun addition to the line up of the day – promising to be as enriching as it is outright entertaining.
Sat Apr 17, 12.30-6.30pm, Pine Street Creative Arts Centre, 64 Pine Street & Peace Park, Chippendale, smartarts.org.au
