SUPERDELUXE

Call me biased, but I am of the opinion that anything that originates in Tokyo is likely superior to things that do not. This is certainly the case with Superdeluxe, the performance and art space founded in the ultimate city of lights in 2002. For the first time, and to our great joy, Superdeluxe has journeyed across the Pacific, settling into Artspace as part of the 17th Bienale of Sydney. The space will play host to an eclectic mix of music, art, performance and cinema. Celebrating a blend of Japanese, Australian and world culture, the space has become somewhat of a hub of the Bienale, nightclub and performance space by night, gallery and drop-in centre by day. The only downside is that Superdeluxe is merely holidaying. The program is far to expansive to do justice to here, but I can strongly recommend getting online and checking it out. To whet your appetite, you can muse on the PechaKucha nights (Thursday nights weekly), Akio Suzuki (June 11), Phil Dadson (June 12), Jackie and the Cedrics (June 18), Oren Ambarchi (June 26), Sunday afternoon film screenings and oh so many more.

Until Aug 1, Superdeluxe @ Artspace, 43-51 Cowper Wharf Rd, Woolloomooloo, 9368 1411, superdeluxe-artspace.com.au
