Acclaimed Australian author Michael Wilding will launch his new novel, Superfluous Men, at Balmain Library on December 15. Set in a writers’ centre, it is the sequel to the best-selling tragi-comic campus novel Academia Nuts, drawing on his experiences at the University of Sydney, where he taught literature and creative writing for many years.
Said colleague Irina Dunn: “Michael’s satire evokes not only sly smiles of recognition, but outright laughter at his turn of phrase and sharp insight into the human condition. The observations of the three old, disillusioned characters are familiar to all of us who have lived in Australia in the latter part of the twentieth century.”
Wilding will talk about Superfluous Men in conversation with Irina Dunn at 6.30pm on Tuesday, December 15, with a further event to follow at Leichhardt Library on February 9. Bookings are essential; call 9367 9214.
