SURES – STARS

Sures are an indie garage band that border on surf-culture pop with an overall sound that brings thoughts of a younger and more modern Beach Boys to mind.

With an expletive-ridden first song called Stars, which takes a dig at the world of groupies, their five-track EP of the same name has got youthful attitude written all over it. Second song, Poseidon conjures images of a classic high school band playing the slow-dance song during a typical American prom scene. By the third and super short track The Sun, the energetic momentum that set the tone of this promising EP begins to wane. The very simple musical arrangement of Romeo has some clever anti-love lyrics that begin to recapture interest but the ethereal harmonies on final track, L.A, fail to measure up to the standard Sures set right off the bat. A full album would give them room to grow into their melodic strengths and a chance to produce some varied upbeat hits, be sure to keep an eye out for it. ***
