If you’re in the mood for a little drama, sizzle, and sauciness, you can’t go past some cabaret, and Sydney Fringe Festival has a bunch of great options. Some of the promising new acts include Alchemical Cabaret at Sidetrack Theatre, which is inspired by a depression era circus sideshow and includes shadow puppets, tricks and harp-playing. Complicated Creatures tackles three enigmatic characters – the Artist, the Prophet, the Lonely – via image and the musical stylings of Martyn Badoui. Intriguing. And finally in I’ll Break My Own Heart, chanteuse Rose Grayson charms her audience by playing a host of fantastical characters which get to the centre of human vulnerability. Check it out at Slide on Oxford Street, which invites you to experience a little bit of Paris with a show, a meal and some razzle dazzle. (NL)
