Wayward Ways ‘ Pet Rocks

By Chris Peken

A decade after their debut album, Pet Rocks have finally gotten around to releasing another. You can be forgiven for missing their first album PR Nightmare as it was released in New Zealand, or perhaps you were only ten at the time! Having moved countries and changed a few personnel Pet Rocks return with Wayward Ways, an album of curious pop pieces. Easy Tiger is the obvious stand out, it’s catchy Beck-like vocal and spikey guitar bounces along in perfect time for summer and has the sort of broad appeal that is likely to catch any listeners ear. Elsewhere the alum plays like a compilation of influences, hear The Stone Roses on Aluminium Gold, The Underground Lovers on The Scots, Stooges era Primal Scream on Chinatown, and Ian Brown fronting Steely Dan on Slow Train. These boys have something for everyone! Wonder what we will be listening to when they release their third album in 2018′
